Danchenko, Serhii [Данченко, Сергій; Dančenko, Serhij] b 17 March 1937 in Zaporizhia, d 20 August 2001 in Kyiv. Stage director, son of Volodymyr Danchenko. After graduating from the Kyiv Institute of Theater Arts in 1965, Danchenko worked as a director with the Lviv Ukrainian Drama Theater in 1965–7 and 1970–8. He was also the main director of the Lviv Young Spectator's Theater (1967–70) and the Kyiv Ukrainian Drama Theater from 1978. His most successful plays include William Shakespeare’s Richard III, Mykola Kulish’s Maklena Grasa, Ivan Franko’s Ukradene shchastia (Stolen Happiness), and Lesia Ukrainka’s Kaminnyi hospodar (Stone Host).
