Haller, Józef, b 13 August 1873 in Jurczyce, near Cracow, Poland, d 4 June 1960 in London. General of the Polish army which was organized in France during 1918. In April 1919 Haller and his army of six infantry divisions arrived in Warsaw with Allied directives to operate against the Red Army. However, his divisions engaged the Ukrainian Galician Army in intensive combat during May–July and succeeded in pushing it out of Galicia into central Ukraine (see Ukrainian-Polish War in Galicia, 1918–19). On 1 June 1919 Haller was promoted to full general, and he continued to hold key positions in the Polish army until 1926.
