Hohol, Albert [Гоголь, Альберт; Hohol'], b 27 December 1922 in Two Hills, Alberta, d 17 November 2017 in Edmonton. Educator and politician. Educated at the universities of Alberta and Oregon (PhD 1967), between 1947 and 1971 he was a teacher and superintendent of schools in Alberta. As the Progressive Conservative member of the Alberta legislature for Edmonton-Belmont (1971–9), he served as minister of manpower and labor (1971–5) and minister of advanced education and manpower (1975–9). In 1979–87 he was a member of the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta, serving as its Vice-Chairman from 1983. He played a key role in establishing the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies.
