Kaminsky, Fedir [Камінський, Федір; Kamins'kyj], b 1845 in the Poltava region (according to other information: in Minsk gubernia), d 20 March 1891 in Kezhan, Minsk gubernia. Archeologist. Kaminsky studied at Kyiv University and then worked as a teacher in Pereiaslav, Khorol, Lubny, and Pryluky. In 1873 he was the first to excavate a Paleolithic Period site in Ukraine—the Hintsi archeological site in the Poltava region. His discoveries were published in the proceedings (Trudy) of the Third Archeological Congress in Kyiv, and sparked interest in the study of Paleolithic monuments in Eastern Europe. He also excavated monuments in the region of Lubny, particularly Scythian kurhans. He contributed articles to the journal Kievskaia starina.
