Kandyba

Kandyba. Name of a Cossack starshyna family originally from Right-Bank Ukraine that later settled in the Konotop region. Andronyk's descendents Semen, Mykhailo, and Petro all served as captains of Pishchane company in Cherkasy regiment in the mid-18th century. Fedir was colonel of Korsun regiment (1669–72), captain of Konotop regiment (from 1681), and then Nizhyn regimental quartermaster (1698–1700). He participated in the Chyhyryn campaigns, 1677–8 and the Crimean campaigns (1687, 1689) against the Turks. His son Andronyk (Andrii, d 1730) was captain of Konotop regiment (1698–1707), colonel of the Korsun regiment (1708–9), and later general judge (1729). He was interned in Moscow from 1710 to 1715 for supporting Ivan Mazepa's alliance with Sweden against Russia.
