Krychevsky, Vasyl V. [Кричевський, Василь Васильович; Kryčevs’kyj, Vasyl’ Vasyliovych], b 18 March 1901 in Kharkiv, d 16 June 1978 in Mountain View, California. Painter; son of Vasyl H. Krychevsky and brother of Mykola Krychevsky. A graduate of the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts in Kyiv, where in 1917–23 he studied under Vasyl and Fedir Krychevsky, he became a lecturer at the Kyiv Industrial Design School and film editor at the Kyiv Film Factory and Ukrainfilm. His first exhibition was in 1937. Leaving Ukraine in 1943, he settled in the United States in 1949. He painted portraits and landscapes, illustrated books and posters, designed stage and film sets (most notably for Oleksander Dovzhenko’s Zemlia [Earth, 1930]), and made artistic porcelain.
