Liuboml [Любомль; Ljuboml']. See Google Map; see EU map: II-5. A city (2021 pop 10,421) in the southwestern part of Volhynian Polisia and a raion center in Volhynia oblast. Liuboml is first mentioned in the Galician-Volhynian Chronicle under the year 1287. It was Prince Volodymyr Vasylkovych’s favorite town, and his place of death in 1288. In the 14th century a castle was built there, and in 1541 the town was granted the rights of Magdeburg law. From 1768 it belonged to the Branicki family, who built a palace and park there (one building of this palace has been preserved). In the interwar period Liuboml was a county center in Volhynia voivodeship. The city has the Svitiaz Machine-Building Plant, two lumber mills, and a regional studies museum. Its architectural monuments include the Church of Saint George (1264), a Catholic church (1412), castle catacombs (15th–16th century), and a partly preserved 18th-century trading center. A burial site from the 3rd to 4th centuries and two fortified settlements from the time of Kyivan Rus’ have been excavated near Liuboml.
