Makohon, Ivan [Макогон, Іван], b 26 October 1907 in Hrushuvakha, Izium county, Kharkiv gubernia, d 19 August 2001 in Kyiv. Sculptor. He studied at the Kharkiv Art Institute (1926–31) and with Ivan Severa. After the Second World War he was a member of the Studio of Military Painters (1944–53) and taught at the Kyiv State Art Institute (from 1954). His works include Mykhailo Hrushevsky’s burial monument (with Vasyl H. Krychevsky), sculptural portraits of Ivan Severyn (1937), Oles Honchar (1971), and Nikolai Pirogov (1977), a bust (1938) and bronze medal (1939) of Taras Shevchenko, the compositions Banner of Victory (1946) and Harvest (1970), the 6-m bas-relief at the Arsenal station of the Kyiv metro (with Andrii Nimenko), a bas-relief of Mykola Bazhan (1984), and Gen Yu. Shchadenko’s (1952) and Yurii Yanovsky’s (1961) burial monuments.
