Muzyka, Maksym [Музика, Максим], b 15 July 1889 in Lviv, d 24 May 1972 in Lviv. Physician, bacteriologist, and civic leader; full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh) from 1933; husband of Yaroslava Muzyka. A graduate of Lviv University (MD, 1913), he was president of the Medical Hromada (1911–12), founded and headed the Bacteriological-Chemical Institute of the NTSh, and taught at the Lviv (Underground) Ukrainian University (1921–5), which he helped organize. He was president of the Ukrainian Physicians' Society in 1925, 1927, and 1930, a member of the editorial board of Likars’kyi vistnyk (1922–39), and a member of the Ukrainian Hygienic Society and the Narodnia Lichnytsia society. He was deputy director of the Lviv Medical Institute (1939–41), head of its microbiology department (1940–1, 1949–69), and its director (1944–9). His publications include articles on bacteriology, epidemiology, and the history of medicine in Ukraine.
