Pevny, Petro [Певний, Петро; Pevnyj], b 18 August 1888 in Poltava, d 8 August 1957 in New York. Civic and political leader and journalist; father of Bohdan Pevny. He helped edit the daily Vidrodzhennia (Kyiv) in Kyiv (1918) and Ukraïna in Kamianets-Podilskyi (1919). With the collapse of the Ukrainian National Republic he emigrated to Poland, and in 1929 he moved to Volhynia. He was president of the Volhynian Ukrainian Alliance (1928–35) and editor of its weekly Ukraïns’ka nyva in Warsaw and Lutsk (1926–35). He was also president of the Ridna Khata society in Lutsk. He was elected to the Polish Sejm as an Alliance candidate (1930, 1935) and pursued a policy of accommodation with the Poles. After the Second World War he fled to Germany and then emigrated to the United States.
