Romanus, Paolo

Romanus, Paolo (Павло Римлянин; Pavlo Rymlianyn), b ? in Rome, d 1618 in Lviv. Italian architect. His name first appears in Lviv guild records in 1585. He built various buildings in Lviv and took part in the construction of the Dormition Church in Lviv (1591–8), the Bernardine (1606–30) and the Benedictine churches, and the Kampian Chapel. He creatively adapted the Italian Renaissance style to local traditions and needs.
