Ukrainian Military Club

Ukrainian Military Club (Ukrainskyi Viiskovyi kliub im. Hetmana Pavla Polubotka). A military-political organization founded on 29 March 1917 at a conference of Ukrainian officers and soldiers of the Kyiv Military District. Its chief founder was Lt Mykola Mikhnovsky. The club organized Ukrainian volunteer regiments and military organizations. Thanks to its efforts, similar clubs sprang up on all the fronts, the Khmelnytsky Regiment was formed in Kyiv, and the First All-Ukrainian Military Congress (18–21 May 1917) was held. Club members demanded a declaration of Ukraine's independence from the congress. The club's activities ceased in June 1917, when Mikhnovsky was transferred to the Romanian front.
