Bolesław II the Bold, 1039–81. Polish prince of Cracow (1058–77) and king (1077–9). He was involved in the wars among the Kyivan princes and, as a supporter of Iziaslav Yaroslavych, made two campaigns into Ukraine (1069 and 1077). In the course of the first he occupied Kyiv, but was forced to retreat in the face of an uprising by the citizens of that city and occupied the Cherven towns.
