Fomin, Yevhen [Фомін, Євген], b 27 December 1910 in Kakhovka, Kherson gubernia, d 5 November 1942 in Kyiv. Poet. Fomin studied at the Kharkiv Institute of People's Education and moved to Kyiv in 1935. During the Second World War he worked as a newspaper correspondent at the front. In the summer of 1942 he was taken prisoner by the Nazis and tortured to death by the Gestapo.

Fomin started writing poetry in the mid-1920s and became a member of the literary organization Molodniak. His publications include poetry collections: Poeziï (Poems, 1927), Zasidannia heroïv (A Meeting of Heroes, 1932), Liryka (Lyric Poetry, 1938), Krov za krov (Blood for Blood, 1942); the long poem Trypil's'ka trahediia (Trypillian Tragedy, 1929); a children’s story Ivasyk-Telesyk (co-authored with Anatolii Shyian, 1941); and the posthumously published Vybrane (Selections, 1956, 1958, 1963).
