Havlíček-Borovský, Karel, b 21 October 1821 in Borová (now Zbraslavice), Kutná Hora county, Bohemia, d 29 July 1856 in Prague. Czech poet and publicist. From 1842 to 1844 he taught in Lviv and Moscow and visited Kyiv. He was a close acquaintance of Yakiv Holovatsky and Osyp Bodiansky. He became a Slavophile and was a strong proponent of national rights for the peoples of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, including the Ukrainians. He was one of the organizers of the Slavic Congress in Prague, 1848. He is the author of a number of political tracts and satirical poems. His poetry was translated into Ukrainian by Ivan Franko.
