Holovatsky, Ivan [Головацький, Іван; Holovac'kyj], b 1816 in Chepeli, Zolochiv circle, Galicia, d 9 February 1899 in Vienna. Civic leader and journalist; brother of Yakiv Holovatsky. Holovatsky contributed to the government newspaper Halycho-ruskii vistnyk in 1849–50 and then edited its successor Vistnyk (Vienna) in 1850–1. For many years he translated Austrian law into Ukrainian and taught Russian at the University of Vienna. He published the almanac Vinok rusynam na obzhynky (A Garland for Ruthenians after the Harvest, 1846–7).
