Horodyshche (Cherkasy region) [Horodyšče]. Map: IV-12. Town (2001 pop 15,645) and raion center in Cherkasy oblast, situated on the Vilshanka River. First mentioned in the 16th century, it has a memorial museum and monument dedicated to the singer and composer Semen Hulak-Artemovsky (who was born there), a large sugar refinery (since 1848), a brewery, and a labradorite quarry. The 1771 Church of Saint Mary the Protectress is preserved there.
