Hrusheve Monastery [Грушівський монастир; Hrushivskyi monastyr]. An Orthodox monastery dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel in Hrusheve, eastern Transcarpathia. Established in the 12th century, it obtained the right of stauropegion in 1391 and became an important religious and cultural center with a library, school, and printing press. In 1404 it was endowed with three villages: Hrusheve, Teresva, and Kryve. With the advancement of Catholicism in Transcarpathia the monastery lost its estates in 1660 and was razed during I. Thököly’s uprising against the Habsburgs (ca 1680).
