Hrynevetsky, Stepan [Гриневецький, Степан; Hrynevec'kyj], b 6 October 1877 in Busk, Kaminka-Strumylova county, Galicia, d 6 November 1942 in Chicago. Physician and civic leader. After completing his medical degree at the University of Vienna, and working for over eight years as an assistant and lecturer at Vienna General Hospital, he immigrated to the United States (ca 1907). Settling in Chicago, he opened a private practice and joined the staffs of Saint Mary of Nazareth and Billings hospitals. He also lectured at the Rush Medical College in Chicago. He was an editor of the weekly Ukraïna (1918–20), organizer and head of the monarchist Sich society, and editor of its journal, Sich (1920). He served as the supreme otaman of the Sich movement in the United States (1920–5), but resigned after a conflict with Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky. In the late 1930s Hrynevetsky organized a Ukrainian detachment in the Illinois National Guard.
