Hubarenko, Vitalii [Губаренко, Віталій], b 13 June 1934 in Kharkiv, d 5 May 2000 in Kyiv. Composer. A graduate of the Kharkiv Conservatory (1960, Dmytro Klebanov’s class), he taught theory and composition at the conservatory between 1961 and 1972. He composed several operas, including The Destruction of a Squadron (based on Oleksander Korniichuk’s play) and Mamai, two symphonies (1961, 1965), a symphonic poem In Memory of Taras Shevchenko (1962), a symphonic picture Kupalo (1971), some concertos for cello and flute, chamber music, vocal cycles, and art songs.
