Khyriv [Xyriv]. Map: IV-3. Town (1970 pop 3,500) in Staryi Sambir raion, Lviv oblast, situated in Subcarpathia on the Stryvihor River. First mentioned in 1374 under Polish rule, it was razed by the Tatars in 1502–5. In 1528 it received the right of Magdeburg law. In 1939 its population was 4,250, of whom 1,900 were Poles and 1,000 were Jews. The town has remained undeveloped. Insulation, bricks, and furniture are made there.
