Kish [kiš] (from the Turkic koš or goš, meaning camp, group of yurts, stable stall, or troop). A Cossack encampment or settlement of Zaporozhian Cossacks. The title given to the leader of the Zaporozhian Sich—Kish otaman—is derived from the word.
