Korchynsky, Mykhailo [Корчинський, Михайло; Korčyns’kyj, Myxajlo], b 27 March 1885 in Zaluchia, Kamianets-Podilskyi county, Podilia gubernia, d 7 October 1937 in Lviv. Political and civic leader. A lawyer by profession, from 1908 to 1917 he was active in the Ukrainian community in Saint Petersburg, serving as chairman of the local student hromada, of the Society of Ukrainian Progressives, and of the Ukrainian Civic Club. Under the Provisional Government he was appointed deputy to the gubernial commissioner of Bukovyna. Korchynsky sat in the Central Rada as a deputy from the Ukrainian Party of Socialists-Federalists. Under the Directory of the Ukrainian National Republic he served as state secretary in Volodymyr Chekhivsky’s and Serhii Ostapenko’s cabinets. He was one of the advocates and then a member of the Council of the Republic, which convened in Tarnów in 1921. After the First World War Korchynsky worked in Ukrainian institutions in Galicia: he headed the legal department of the Audit Union of Ukrainian Co-operatives in Lviv from 1922, served on the Supreme Executive of the Prosvita society (1932–7), sat on the legal commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and belonged to the Ukrainian Society of Aid to Emigrants from Greater Ukraine. His articles appeared in the co-operative press and the general Ukrainian press.
