Kuznetsov, Mykola [Кузнецов, Микола; Kuznecov], b 14 December 1850 in Stepanivka, Melitopol county, Tavriia gubernia, d 2 March 1929 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. Painter. Upon graduating from the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts (1879), where he had studied under P. Chistiakov, he traveled in France and Italy. He lectured briefly at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts (1895–7) and then lived in Odesa, where he participated in the exhibitions of the Society of South Russian Artists and the Peredvizhniki group. His works consist of genre paintings such as On a Holiday (1881), Hired Labor (1882), and After Dinner (1888), and portraits, including those of Peter Tchaikovsky and Illia Mechnikov. In 1920 he immigrated to Yugoslavia. L. Chlenova published a monograph on Kuznetsov in 1962.
