Kyiv National Pedagogical University (Національний педагогічний університет ім. М. Драгоманова; Natsionalnyi pedahohichnyi universytet im. M. Drahomanova). An institution of higher education in Kyiv and one of the largest pedagogical universities in Ukraine. It was organized in 1934 as Kyiv Pedagogical Institute out of the Kyiv Institute of People's Education (est 1920). In 1936 it was named after Russian socialist-realist writer Maxim Gorky. In 1993 the university was reorganized into Kyiv State Pedagogical University and named after Mykhailo Drahomanov. In 1997 it was granted the national university status and assumed its present name. The university consists of eighteen faculties, including: political science and law, physics and mathematics, arts, historical education, pedagogy and psychology, philology and literary creativity, foreign languages, and physical education. The university’s library has a collection of over 1.1 million books. The total enrollment is over 20,000 students.
