Latysheva, Klavdiia [Латишева, Клавдія; Latyševa, Klavdija], b 14 March 1897 in Kyiv, d 11 May 1956 in Kyiv. Mathematician. She studied at the Kyiv Institute of People's Education (later Kyiv University) in 1920–8, where she remained as a faculty member until her death. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, she worked closely with Mykola Krylov and Mykhailo Kravchuk. She was the first woman in Ukraine to attain a doctorate and then a full professorship in the field of mathematics. Her most famous work is a theorem on the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of closed-form solutions of differential equations with polynomial coefficients.
