Markovsky, Yevhen [Марковський, Євген; Markovs'kyj, Jevhen], b 18 November 1893 in Papuzhyntsi, Uman county, Kyiv gubernia, d 11 August 1983 in Sumy, Sumy oblast. Literary scholar, linguist, theater studies specialist; son of Mykhailo Markovsky. He worked in various historical institutes of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (VUAN) and wrote works on Ivan Kotliarevsky and Anatol Radyvylovsky, as well as a pioneering book on the Ukrainian vertep (1929). In 1940–41 he worked at the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and prepared two Ukrainian language textbooks. After the Second World War he lectured at Chernihiv University (1945–48) and Sumy Pedagogical Institute (1948–55).
