Maslov, Mykola [Маслов, Микола], b 4 May 1880 in Lubny, Poltava gubernia, d 1942 in Kazakhstan. Community figure and politician; father of Leonid Maslov. He studied law at Saint Petersburg University, was active in the Ukrainian Student Hromada in Saint Petersburg, and practiced law in Saint Petersburg. After the February Revolution of 1917 he served as a commissioner of the Central Rada in Borshchiv county, Galicia, and then directed the chancery of the Little Rada in Kyiv. Under the Directory of the Ukrainian National Republic he headed a government department in 1919. As an interwar émigré in Polish-ruled Volhynia, he headed the executive of the local government in Lutsk, was active in the Volhynian Ukrainian Alliance and the Ridna Khata society, administered the state property of the Orthodox Lutsk Brotherhood of the Elevation of the Cross, and presided over the Ukrainian Theater Society. Maslov was elected to the Polish Senate in 1930 and 1935 and became a deputy senator in 1938. He served as a secretary in the senate and was a member (from 1935) of its Legal Commission. From 1935 on he spoke out in support of educational and agricultural reforms, the eradication of unemployment among the Ukrainian peasantry and intelligentsia, and normalization of the legal status of the Ukrainian Orthodox church. Maslov was arrested during the 1939 Soviet occupation of Western Ukraine and deported to Kazakhstan, where he died or was killed.
