Molodyk («Молодик»; New Moon). A literary-art almanac published in 1843–4. Four issues in total appeared; three were printed in Kharkiv, and the fourth in Saint Petersburg. Molodyk was published by Ivan Betsky with the assistance of Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko, Mykola Kostomarov, and others. It published works by Taras Shevchenko, Kvitka-Osnovianenko, Yevhen Hrebinka, Amvrosii Metlynsky, M. Kostomarov, Mykhailo Petrenko, Fiodor Glinka, and others, and articles on the history of Ukraine and the history of Ukrainian literature (eg, Kharkiv College, Hryhorii Skovoroda). Russian literary critics (especially Vissarion Belinsky) had a hostile attitude to Molodyk.
