Narodna tvorchist’ ta etnolohiia [«Народна творчість та етнологія»; Folk Creativity and Ethnology]. A scholarly journal of the Institute of Fine Arts, Folklore, and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It dates back to 1925, when it came out as Etnohrafichnyi visnyk (to 1932). Later it appeared under the names Ukraïns’kyi fol’klor (1937–9), Narodna tvorchist’ (1939–41), and Naukovi zapysky (1947–54). In 1957 it was renamed Narodna tvorchist’ ta etnohrafiia and appeared quarterly. In 1964 it became a bimonthly. The journal was renamed again in 2011 and assumed its present name. Its main sections are the history of science, culture, arts, everyday life, (until 1991) the criticism of ‘bourgeois’ and ‘bourgeois-nationalist’ ideological concepts, folklorists in the ‘brotherly’ republics, a young researchers’ forum, surveys, reviews and annotations, and a chronicle of current events. Its main focus, until 1991, was political events, anniversaries, and the current ‘Soviet way of life.’ There were relatively few academic papers devoted to traditional ethnography and folklore. Since 1991 the journal has been publishing ethnological studies, essays on Ukrainian ethnography, religion, and folklore. Its editors have been Maksym Rylsky (1957–66), O. Dei (1966–74), Serhii Zubkov (1974–87), Oleksandr Kostiuk (1987–2000), and Hanna Skrypnyk (since 2000).
