Nekrashevych, Ivan [Некрашевич, Іван; Nekraševyč], b 1742 in Vyshenky, Chernihiv regiment, d after 1796 in Vyshenky. Writer. He graduated from the Kyivan Mohyla Academy (1763) and returned to his native village to serve as a priest. He wrote a number of works of epistolary verse, the theological poem ‘Spor dushi i tila’ (The Struggle of the Soul and the Flesh, 1773 [published in 1873]), the versified dialogue ‘Ispovid'’ (Confession, 1789), and ‘Iarmarok’ (The Marketplace, 1790). Many scholars also attribute to him the dialogue ‘Zamysl na popa’ (A Design against the Priest). His humorous and satiric works were based on folk (mainly Chernihiv region) dialect and were written in syllabo-tonic verse.
