Nove slovo (New Word). A daily newspaper published in Lviv from the autumn of 1912 to 3 September 1914. Subsidized by Rev Tyt Voinarovsky-Stolobut and edited by a committee headed by M. Kurtseba and including M. Nyskoklon, Stepan Biliak, V. Kozak, and Ivan Nimchuk, it contained articles on political developments and historical and cultural topics, works of literature, and translations from foreign newspapers, and was one of the most widely read Ukrainian newspapers of its day (reaching a circulation of some 12,000). Nove slovo was closed down after the Russian occupation of Lviv, but was briefly revived in June–July 1915, after Lviv had been recaptured by Austro-Hungarian forces, and edited by Fed Fedortsiv. It was succeeded by Ukraïns’ke slovo (1915–18).
