Pereiaslavets [Переяславець; Perejaslavec'; aka Малий Переяславець; Malyi Pereiaslavets]. The name in the Rus’ Primary Chronicle of the medieval Bulgarian town of Malyi Preslav, on the right bank of the lower Danube River. In the 10th century it was situated at the intersection of the trade routes between Kyivan Rus’ and the Danubian lands and Rus’ and Byzantium. In 967 Grand Prince Sviatoslav I Ihorovych captured the town during his first Bulgarian campaign and planned to move his capital there. In 971 the town was taken by the Byzantine troops of John Tzimisces, who slaughtered the Rus’ garrison and put an end to Sviatoslav I Ihorovych’s plans.
