Popel, Antin [Попель, Антін; Popel'; Popiel, Antoni], b 13 June 1865 in Szczakowa, Poland, d 7 July 1910 in Lviv. Sculptor. A graduate of the Cracow School of Fine Art (1884) and the Vienna Academy of Art (1888), he taught painting and sculpture at the Lviv Higher Polytechnical School and worked as a sculptor. He sculpted some of the decorative statues at the Lviv Theater of Opera and Ballet, the composition Justice for the Palace of Justice in Lviv, and several monuments, including the Adam Mickiewicz monument in Lviv (with Mykhailo Parashchuk, 1905–6), the Józef Korzeniowski monument in Brody, and the Tadeusz Kościuszko monument in Washington, DC.
