Posiada, Ivan [Посяда, Іван; Posjada], b 9 April 1823 in Zinkiv, Poltava gubernia, d 24 October 1894 in Korostyshiv, Radomyshl county, Kyiv gubernia. Pedagogue and political activist. A student in the philosophy faculty of Kyiv University from 1843, in 1846 he joined the Cyril and Methodius Brotherhood. When this society was suppressed by the authorities in 1847, he was arrested and exiled to Kazan, where he finished his university studies. Afterward he worked in the state administration and in schools in Russia before being allowed to return to Ukraine in 1869 as director of the Korostyshiv Teachers' Seminary (until 1879).
