Roman Danylovych [Роман Данилович; Danylovyč], b ?, d 1258. Rus’ prince; third of Danylo Romanovych's five sons. He married the heiress of the Austrian throne, Gertrude of Babenberg, after the death of the last member of the Babenberg dynasty, Friedrich II. He ruled Austria briefly (1252) and resided in Himberg, near Vienna. Ca 1254 the Lithuanian duke Mindaugas granted him the rule of Chorna Rus’ (including Navahrudak, Slonim, and Vaukavysk). In 1258 the Mongol leader Burundai forced Roman, along with Vasylko Romanovych (prince of Volhynia) and other Ukrainian princes, to join a campaign against Lithuania, and he was killed in battle.
