Rozov, Volodymyr [Розов, Володимир], b 15 July 1876 in Kyiv, d 21 May 1940 in Zagreb, Croatia. Philologist. A graduate of Kyiv University (1902), he taught philological subjects (presenting the first lectures on the history of the Ukrainian language and dialectology) there (1906–16) and at the Nizhyn Historical-Philological Institute (1916–18). After emigrating to Yugoslavia (1919) he taught Russian at Skopje (in the 1920s) and Zagreb (from 1930) universities. In 1928 at Ljubljana University he defended his PH D dissertation on the 15th-century Volhynian dialect. He is the author of some 100 works, including an annotated edition of 14th- and 15th-century Ukrainian charters published by the Russian Academy of Sciences (1917) and, in Ukrainian translation, by the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (1928); and articles on the significance and language of the charters, on Galician and Volhynian dialects, on Ahatanhel Krymsky, on Ukrainian school dramas, and on Old Bulgarian and Serbian literary monuments. His monograph on the language of the charters and his index of personal and geographical names in and lexicon to the charters have not been published.
