Sabov, Kyrylo [Сабов, Кирило], b 28 August 1838 in Stavne, Transcarpathia, d 10 February 1914 in Košice, Slovakia. Greek Catholic priest, educator, Russophile, and cultural figure. After graduating from the Barbareum in Vienna he taught language, history, and geography at Uzhhorod gymnasium (1862–71). He wrote two textbooks, Grammatika pis'mennogo russkogo iazyka (A Grammar of the Literary Russian Language, 1865) and the companion Kratkii sbornik izbrannykh sochinenii v proze i stikhakh dlia uprazhneniia v russkom iazyke (A Short Collection of Selected Works in Prose and Verse for Exercises in the Russian Language, 1868). In Uzhhorod he was also assistant editor (1867) and then chief editor (1867–9) of the first literary newspaper for Transcarpathian Ukrainians, Svit (Uzhhorod). Because of his Slavophile sympathies he was transferred to Szeged (1871–9), but later he was allowed to teach in Mukachevo and Košice.
