Schools for rural youth [школи сільської молоді; shkoly silskoi molodi]. Night schools for youths employed full time in the agricultural industry, established in 1944. Initially, schools for rural youth offered classes which were the equivalent of grades one to four and grades one to seven in seven-year schools. After 1956 the schools provided courses which covered the material in grades five to ten and eight to ten in ten-year schools. Graduates of schools for rural youth were eligible for admission to higher educational institutions. In 1962, in the Ukrainian SSR there were 7,081 schools for rural youth, with 226,900 students. In 1958, schools for rural youth were renamed evening secondary schools for workers' and rural youth, and in 1971 they were renamed evening secondary general-education schools.
