Songbirds (співучі птахи; spivuchi ptakhy). Nearly half of all birds are songbirds; they represent 35–55 families and more than 4,000 species in the suborder Oscines, order Passeriformes. In Ukraine the following families can be heard: larks (Alaudidae), nightingales, swallows, wagtails, wrens (Troglodytidae), thrushes, warblers, titmice, waxwings, treecreepers (Certhiidae), hedge sparrows, finches (Fringillidae), starlings, orioles (Oriolidae), and crows. Some songbirds are kept as pets for their melodious tones. Most songbirds living in the wild are valuable because they control various agricultural pests.
