Sylvestr, Hegumen [Сильвестр; Syl’vestr], b ?, d 12 April 1123. Chronicler and bishop. He was hegumen of the Saint Michael's Vydubychi Monastery in Kyiv and then bishop of Pereislav (from 1118; see Pereiaslav eparchy). He was close to Prince Volodymyr Monomakh and advised him on church and political affairs. Sylvestr is believed to have copied and updated the Laurentian Chronicle, the second redaction of Povist’ vremennykh lit prepared after the death of Nestor the Chronicler, which includes an account of the years 1113–16.
