Tomyn, William or Vasyl [Томин, Василь], b 4 September 1905 in Warwick, Alberta, d 5 October 1972 in Edmonton. Politician and community activist. After graduating from a teachers’ college in Calgary, he worked as a teacher and school principal for two decades. A member of the Social Credit party, he served 29 years in the Alberta legislature, representing the electoral districts of Whitford (1935–40), Willingdon (1940–52), and Edmonton Norwood (1959–71). He was active in the Ukrainian Canadian Committee and the Ukrainian People's Home in Edmonton. He supported the introduction of the Ukrainian language as a subject in Alberta public schools and defended the rights of new immigrants to Canada after the Second World War.
