Tsesevych, Volodymyr [Цесевич, Володимир; Cesevyč] (Цесевич, Владимир; Tsesevich, Vladimir), b 11 October 1907 in Kyiv, d 28 October 1983 in Odesa. Astronomer; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (AN URSR) from 1948; son of Platon Tsesevych. A graduate of Leningrad University (1929), he worked at astronomical observatories in Dushanbe and Leningrad. From 1944 he directed the Odesa Astronomical Observatory; in 1948–50 he simultaneously directed the AN URSR Main Astronomical Observatory. His main field of research was variable stars (the variation in their brightness, the theory of their occultation, and the behavior of binary stars). He also studied the rotation of man-made satellites and asteroids, and worked out and published extensive tables of binaries.
