Udovenko, Volodymyr [Удовенко, Володимир], b 9 July 1881 in Kyiv, d 8 December 1937 in Leningrad oblast, RSFSR. Medical scientist and political prisoner. In the 1920s he was a professor at the Kyiv Medical Institute and the Kyiv State Art Institute and a member of the presidium of the medical section of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. He was arrested by the GPU on 22 November 1929 and sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment at the 1930 show trial of the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine. Three days before his scheduled release he was sentenced to death by the OGPU and shot in a concentration camp in the Soviet Arctic.
