Ukrainian Gymnasium in Czechoslovakia [Українська гімназія в Чехословаччині; Ukrainska himnaziia v Chekhoslovachchyni]. Founded in Prague in 1925 on the initiative of the Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute. In 1926 it received official sanction as a realgymnasium, on the model of the Czech gymnasium system. In 1927 it was relocated to Řevnice, and in 1938 to Modřany, near Prague. In 1937–8 the gymnasium had 185 students and 33 faculty members. It had a dormitory which housed the majority of its students, who came mainly from Transcarpathia. It remained open until 1945. The directors were Yakym Yarema, Ahenor Artymovych, I. Kobyzky, M. Khliur, H. Omelchenko (from 1936), and Avhustyn Shtefan (from 1940). A collection of articles (edited by Volodymyr Maruniak) about the gymnasium was published in 1975.
