Velyka Akarzha archeological site [археологічна пам’ятка Велика Акаржа; arkheolohichna pamiatka Velyka Akarzha] also known as Velykodolynske archeological site. An Upper Paleolithic camping ground near Velykodolynske, Ovidiopil raion, Odesa oblast, discovered in 1955. Excavations in 1959 and 1961 by Pavlo Boryskovsky recovered nearly 19,000 flint pieces and the bones of wild animals which served to provide a valuable body of data concerning the prehistory of this region. The site, which is interpreted as a base settlement for bison hunters of the Paleolithic Period, was excavated in the 1980s and 1990s by Ihor Sapozhnykov. The age of the oldest artifacts found at the site is estimated to be approximately 19,000 years.
