Viazlov, Andrii [Вязлов, Андрій; Vjazlov, Andrij], b 1862 in Volhynia, d 16 October 1919 in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Podilia gubernia. Lawyer and civic activist. A justice of the peace and a member of the circuit court, he was a deputy to the First Russian State Duma in 1906 and a member of the Ukrainian caucus in the Russian State Duma and the Autonomists' Union. During the First World War he served on the Committee for the Relief of the Population of Southern Russia Suffering from Military Actions and played an important role in determining its plan of action. He was a member of the Society of Ukrainian Progressives and from 1917 sat on its Council. Later he joined the Ukrainian Party of Socialists-Federalists. During the rule of the Central Rada he was the gubernial commissioner for Volhynia (1917) and then a judge of the General Court (1918). Under the Hetman government he was appointed senator and, in October 1918, minister of justice in Fedir Lyzohub’s cabinet. With the hetman’s downfall he left politics and assumed the presidency of the Ukrainian Red Cross. While retreating with the Army of the Ukrainian National Republic he died of typhus.
