Voliansky, Pavlo [Волянський, Павло; Voljans'kyj], b 27 January 1888 in Otynia, Tovmach county, Galicia, d 30 June 1944 in Poznań, Poland. Pedagogue and community activist. He graduated from Chernivtsi University in 1913, having specialized in the Ukrainian and German languages. From 1916 he taught at the Peremyshl State Gymnasium and played an active role in local Ukrainian musical and theatrical circles. He was forced into retirement in 1937 by the Polish authorities, ostensibly for medical reasons. In 1939 he moved to Poznań to work in the university library. During the Second World War he sheltered and assisted numerous Western Ukrainian intellectuals who had fled the Soviet occupation of Western Ukraine.
