Vysotsky, Serhii [Висоцький, Сергій; Vysoc'kyj, Serhij], b 15 July 1923 in Poltava, d 19 December 1998 in Kyiv. Historian and archeologist. After graduating from Kyiv University (1956) he worked at the Saint Sophia Museum and the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (from 1967; as a section head from 1981). He has specialized in the history and culture of Kyivan Rus’, particularly graffiti and frescoes, and he was one of the managers of the restoration of Kyiv’s Golden Gate. His works include Zolotye vorota v Kieve (The Golden Gate in Kyiv, 1982) and Kievskie graffiti XI–XVII vv. (Kyivan Graffiti of the 11th–17th Centuries, 1985).
