Yaroslav Sviatopolkovych [Jaroslav Svjatopolkovyč] (Yaroslavets Sviatopolchych), b ?, d 15 August 1123. Kyivan Rus’ prince; son of Sviatopolk II Iziaslavych and son-in-law of Mstyslav I Volodymyrovych. In 1100 (or 1097) he was placed in Volodymyr-Volynskyi by his father, who wished to replace the insubordinate Davyd Ihorovych; Sviatopolk's decision was ratified at the Vytychiv congress of princes. In 1117 Yaroslav refused to recognize the suzerainty of the Kyivan prince Volodymyr Monomakh and was forced to flee to Poland and then Hungary. He re-established himself in Volodymyr-Volynskyi in 1118 with the aid of Hungarian troops, but was again challenged following a revolt by his boyars, who supported Monomakh. In 1123 Yaroslav, with the help of Hungarian and Polish forces, laid siege to Volodymyr-Volynskyi, where he was killed in battle.
